Local SEO: What are the attributes of my Google listing used for?

Selecting the right attributes has a real impact on your listing's visibility in search results. But what are they? And how do you fill them in? Learn all about them here!

What is an attribute? 💬

Attributes provide users with additional details about your business. They appear directly on your Google listing, and help users appreciate the specifics of your product and/or service offerings.

In addition to helping you stand out from the competition, attributes also play a role in improving your your local SEO. They enable Google to better identify your business, and display you in relevant search results.

Let's say you own a hotel. By entering the attribute "outdoor pool", you'll have every chance of being at the top of the search results for a user looking for a "hotel with pool" in your geographical area.

What are the different types of attributes? 🤔

Attributes evolve regularly to keep users happy. Our advice: don 't hesitate to check your attributes from time to time. You may find new features that will enhance your establishment!

There are two different types of attributes. The objective ones, which you can enter in your file's editing interface, and the subjective ones, which are controlled by your customers.

Please note that access to attributes depends on the categories entered in your file. A restaurant will obviously not have the same attributes available as a bicycle rental company. It wouldn't make sense!

Objective attributes 👀

They inform the customer about what can be found in your establishment. Objective attributes are factual and tangible.

Staying with our swimming pool example, it's perfectly possible to check whether your hotel has one!

This type of attribute can be modified, so you have control over how they are displayed. They are divided into several subcategories, including :

  • Accessibility: indicates in particular whether the establishment is accessible to people with reduced mobility
  • Activities: specify the types of activities available in your area (bike rentals, horseback riding, water skiing, etc.).
  • Clientele: specify the clientele your establishment caters to (families, adults only, etc.).
  • Offers: strongly dependent on the category of your listing, and therefore on your sector of activity
  • Services: highlight the services available (wifi, air conditioning, toilets, etc.).
  • Payment: indicates which payment methods are accepted
  • The schedule: specifies booking conditions
  • Strengths: highlight the differentiating features of your establishment
  • Health and safety: inherited from the covid period, they indicate the preventive measures adopted (mask wearing, temperature measurement, etc.).

Subjective attributes 📣

They depend on reviews left by visitors to your establishment. Subjective attributes are not modifiable and are based on the experience you offer.

These are generally related to the quality of your products or services, or to the atmosphere reflected in the reviews left (relaxed, festive).

How do I select attributes for my record? 🤓

It's easy to add attributes to your form!

  • Access the interface for modifying your listing, for example by typing the name of your establishment in the Google search bar.
  • Select "edit your file".
  • Go to the "more" tab, which will show you the different types of attributes available for your category
  • Select the attributes corresponding to your facility for each available type.

There's no limit to the number of attributes you can select. Try to be exhaustive so that Google can position you on as many queries as possible!
